The Ondo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal has affirmed the election of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, dismissing all petitions filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and four other political parties, News360 Nigeria reports.

The ruling was delivered on Wednesday evening, with the tribunal confirming that Aiyedatiwa, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, was duly elected in the November 16, 2024, governorship poll.

According to the tribunal, Aiyedatiwa secured a total of 366,781 votes, a result deemed valid and lawful.

Challengers to the outcome included the PDP, Social Democratic Party (SDP), Action Alliance (AA), Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM), and the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

They claimed that the election was full of irregularities like over-voting, multiple thumb-printing, and failure of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System.

But in a unanimous ruling, the three-man led by Justice Benson Ogbu said the petitions had no merit.

“The petitioners failed to provide enough evidence. Their claims were weak, lacked seriousness, and could not stand in court,” the tribunal said.

Specifically, the court ruled that the PDP and its candidate, Agboola Ajayi, could not prove their case.

The said they made serious allegations but did not bring strong evidence.

“There is no way the tribunal can confirm non-compliance with the law when no clear proof was shown,” the judges said.

They added that Ajayi “failed woefully” to show that electoral irregularities affected the outcome of the election.

Reacting to the judgment, PDP’s lawyer, Olujimi Oluseye, said the party would study the ruling before deciding to appeal.

“We respect the court, but we’re not satisfied. Our clients have a right to challenge this. We’ll get a copy of the judgment and review it,” he said.

In his own reaction, Aiyedatiwa thanked God and the people of Ondo State. He called on opposition to his government to build the state.

“I give thanks to God and to the people of Ondo. About 366,000 voters gave us the mandate, and now the tribunal has confirmed it.

“Some thought they could steal the victory through the back door, but the court has proved otherwise,” he said.

Aiyedatiwa also urged those who lost to work with his team.

“We are ready to work with everyone. From the day I was declared winner, I invited others to bring their ideas so we can build Ondo together,” he said.

It was entirely predictable! The opposition lacked any solid evidence to back their claims, which were nothing more than baseless insinuations. They were simply chasing shadows. Congratulations to the Ondo Governor. We demand better performance—make us proud!

Politicians sometimes got to court to waste more resources, as a normal way of life.

Akeredolus death was Luckys accidental breakthrough. Immediately Lucky clinched that APC ticket, he stood unopposed in that election. Many do not even know who and who are contesting against him on other party's platforms.

Like him, like GEJ in 2011 election. Lucky man to get the big office against all odds, but are the people really lucky to have him in the big office? In my opinion, NO!

It is only in Nigeria people file a petition based on emotions. You'd see an unserious politician argue that he won.

Someone had claimed to have won and would prove it. The judges questioned him if he required them to shop for evidence for their case or if they expected social media threats to influence their ruling. They were asked by what margins did they win. They could not even do a simple Microsoft Excel compilation to demonstrate the states where they won. Everything was based on emotional voodoo. anchored on MMM and CEBEX scheme.

Petitioners, why can't you ask for ballots and carry out forensics and recount? Ballot papers are serialized and forms EC8A carry information on ballot papers used. If ballot papers have the same fingerprint, any court would invalidate them. If more ballot papers are used than is in the or was given, the results would be invalidated. Your party agents ought to have copies of results from all polling units which must match what INEC declares. Failure to do your homework should not be blamed on INEC.

Election fraud can easily be proved, but those filing petitions refuse to do the work and want to win through the backdoor.
