I Was Naive To Have Criticised Jonathan, I Asked My Father To Apologise On My Behalf — Bello El-Rufai Makes U-Turn

Bello El-Rufai, a member of the House of Representatives and son of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, has publicly itted that he was naive in his past criticisms of former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Speaking on a special edition of Channels Television on Thursday, Bello revealed that his perspective changed when he saw his father, Nasir El-Rufai, seeking an audience with the former president for political consultations.

The younger El-Rufai said the moment prompted deep reflection on his past views, stating, "I told my father that when he sees Jonathan, he should please tell him I’m very sorry, that I’m wiser now."

He itted that his earlier harsh opinions about Jonathan were made without fully understanding the complexities of leadership and governance, adding that maturity and experience have reshaped his outlook on political affairs.

Bello El-Rufai was elected to the House of Representatives in 2023, where he represents Kaduna North Federal Constituency.

He said, “I visited my father after I became a member and I saw him wearing a polo shirt and I said ‘where are you going?’ And he said he was going to see President Jonathan, and I paused because when I was naive or when I thought ego or gratification mattered, I used to be very active in criticising President Jonathan.

“I even forgot in my naivety as many young people do, that we had governance then and I found my father saying that he is going to consult President Jonathan. I said, ‘Please, when you see him, tell him I am very sorry, I am wiser now.’”

“The system is a problem. Now, why did I mention President Jonathan? It takes a lot, particularly in Africa, to lose an election and leave, he did that
," he added.

Acknowledging progress in electoral reforms, the All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmaker stated that if the rumoured amendment allowing citizens to vote without a voter card proves true, he would oppose it.

He affirmed his for strengthening electoral reforms, particularly the electronic transmission of election results.

You criticized Jonathan but never criticized Buhari and now working against Tinubu. The outstanding issue is that only a very few politicians like Mr Peter Obi care for the welfare of the masses.

Tribalism and Naivety are two different things..
You all in that gang up were driven by petty tribal hate.
Had absolutely nothing to do with being naive.
Was Wole Soyinka naive too?
Ditto Bakare and the rest that wre at Ojota burning tires as usual?
It wasn't naivety...
It was Tribalism

That woman on exile in London with Caribbean port was just one, out of 100 thieves stealing on a massive scale during Jonathan’s government. Even Jonathan let us know that stealing is not corruption. Jonathan and all the people that served during his time deserve to be arrested. Just let that man enjoy his theft in peace o.

In actual fact no nigerian leader from 1960 till date should be celebrated except those who fought for independence.

They didnt all do enough to build institutions now the Nigeria system is so weak. Nothing has a structure.

courts are gone, civil societies and the legislature, police force even the military.

How did things become so bad, its all their collective contributions to the rot.

Politicians are the most selfish and wicked individuals on earth. The better part of the hell should be dedicated to them. I wonder how these people sleep at night knowing fully well they are subjecting masses to untoward pains and anguish.

A lot of them are psychopath. They don’t care. Instead of Bello to tell us who was killing people in Southern Kaduna and where Dadiyata is.

You should rather focus your energy on the tribe that deceived you to insult Former President Jonathan .....
Also ask your father to help you apologize to the tribe that keeps the country at peace...

And make sure you won't be deceived again for a better and prosperous Nigeria....

Am happy you said you are wiser now....adds more to a better Nigeria...

cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy

Nigerians do not get why GEJ, Buhari and tinubu are bad leaders. They only see short term things, not long term things.

As for me, we have never had good leaders, and we will never have good leaders until we learn that selling resources does not a strong economy make.

Modified

I want people to pay attention to the bolded, because it seems that people think I am ing this or that party. Tinubu is a bad leader, like all our past leaders because they ain't changing the basis of our economy. And for that reason none of them deserve to rule Nigeria.

If you thought I WAS ing your hero, APC, or PDP ers, or excusing any bad government, you are not getting it.

The head or skull is just there, not that there's sense in there but money from politics by your dads.

The hypocrisy in this country is very shocking and embarrassing. President Jonathan did everything to remove subsidy. He even organised a town hall meeting in Lagos to educate the public on the importance of removing subsidy. Unfortunately, the same people who protested against his government and labeled him all sorts of derogatory names are in power doing worst thing.

The Prof. Soyinka, Pastor Adebayo and many others (Gov. Amechi, Oshiomhole etc) criticised his government vehemently have refused to talk. Anyway, I don't blame them. I blame the masses, who have refused to read in between the line. I blame the masses, who have allowed themselves to be used. I blame the masses who have religion, ethnicity, nepotism to take centre stage.

Unfortunately, it will continue. The same person apologising never saw anything during President Buhari's regime. The same person never for once condemned his father for his high handedness. It is well.

We only criticised when it doesn't affect us. Like one author said, "opportunity maketh a thief. The man who has nothing to steal calls himself a honest man".

When you now see people under your constituency can no longer feed themselves, I think that's enough to tell him that you are very sorry. undecided

What of the massive stealing going on under this government. Tell me where they keep the subsidy money they promised to use for the development. Tell me why they are still borrowing when all loopholes have been blocked
