How can the whole fg commissioning 15km road project?? This road is about 35km from Apo to Karshi and they are commissioning 15km of it done? I think this is madness

Though linked to the OSEX by WASA Junction, the Apo Karshi road is an entirely different project.

The OSEX, on full development, will through Kuje to connect with the Federal Highway A2 ( Abuja/Lokoja expressway) in Gwagwalada. The project is being developed in stages. What was commissioned today is the 15km stretch of the left hand service carriageway from Ring road 1 (Apo interchange) to Wasa junction.

LAUDS FCT MINISTER OVER PROJECTS DELIVERY

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, and his dedicated team for the successful completion and delivery of 17 vital infrastructure projects within the FCT to commemorate his second year in office.

The commendation came during the commissioning of the 15-kilometer left-hand service carriageway of the Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX), stretching from Ring Road I to Wasa Junction in Abuja.

President Tinubu, who was represented at the commissioning ceremony by the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio also applauded the FCT Minister for his unwavering commitment to providing essential infrastructure that positively impacts the lives of FCT residents.

He described the OSEX as Abuja’s crucial transport backbone, emphasizing its role in connecting the city center to rapidly expanding districts such as Apo, Lokogoma, Gudu, Wumba, and Wasa, thereby significantly enhancing urban mobility.

"This road, stretching from Ring Road I all the way to Wasa Junction, is a significant addition to the road networks in the heart of Abuja. This vital infrastructure demonstrates our commitment to sustainable urban development, enhanced mobility, and improved quality of life for the people of the FCT and by extension, to all Nigerians and visitors alike", President Tinubu stated.

The President also praised the impressive quality of work on the OSEX and acknowledged the Minister's efforts to relocate the Apo Mechanic Village traders, expressing confidence that the exercise would be brought to a successful conclusion.

He further commended the surrounding communities for their patience and during the construction phase, urging FCT residents to protect the new infrastructure.

“I commend the FCT istration led by the Hon. Minister, Barrister Nyesom Wike and the contractor, Messrs CGC Nigeria Limited for the impressive feat and quality of work. Through Wike’s leadership, uncompleted projects have been reactivated and delivered with discipline, quality and timeously. Like the Minister described, they had to cut through the rock for 5 kilometers in order to bring about this road.

“The Minister has also promised the mechanic village that has been here since 1991, that they will be relocated and they said they are happy. They expressed it by answering it. If there is something I know about you; it’s the fact that you don’t like anybody breaking agreements. Agreement is agreement. So, today you have an agreement with the good people of the FCT. Remain focused and continue to deliver. Nobody will you for the way you answered your critics. They will only you for the legacies you are leaving on ground”, the President added.

Speaking earlier, the FCT Minister Barrister Nyesom Wike expressed gratitude for President Tinubu's personal commitment and presence at the commissioning of completed projects in the FCT.

He reaffirmed the FCT istration's dedication to completing all ongoing projects in line with the President's Renewed Hope Agenda, crediting the from the President and the National Assembly for the successes achieved thus far.

Barrister Wike stated that the OSEX road project has already improved connectivity within the FCT, allowing easier access from Wasa to Takushara and Ketti, in the Abuja Municipal Area Council.

While committing to the dualisation of the main OSEX carriageways, the FCT Minister equally pledged to personally supervise and ensure the relocation of the Apo Mechanic Village along the road corridor.

He said, "Mr. President, as I speak to you, where we are sitting now, we are going to dualize this road to finally address anything about traffic in this area. Secondly, we have told the Mechanic Village; they said since 2011, they have promised them they will relocate them. Ours is not a promise. Ours is that we are going to do it. I will supervise it, I will chair the relocation"

Addressing critics, the Minister defended the rehabilitation of the International Conference Centre and its renaming after the President, asserting that the FCTA aims for the best for the country and that President Tinubu demonstrated strong leadership in ensuring its restoration.

"We want the best for the country and the President has given the best to the country...If you are not happy that we named it after Mr. President, go and kill yourself. I have done it and I have no regret", Barr. Wike stressed.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has publicly commended the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Barrister Nyesom Wike, for his exceptional leadership in the peaceful relocation and generous compensation of indigenous communities affected by the construction of the newly commissioned Arterial Road N16.

The President's commendation came during the commissioning ceremony of the vital infrastructure project in Abuja.

The Arterial Road N16 (Shehu Shagari Way), a crucial link between the Nnamdi Azikiwe Expressway and Arterial Road N20 (Wole Soyinka Way) within the Jahi District, was officially opened by President Tinubu.

While emphasizing the importance of infrastructure development for national growth, President Tinubu singled out Minister Wike and his team for their collaborative approach, which ensured that development proceeded without displacing the indigenous population.

"They told me how cooperative you were and you collaborated with the FCT Minister and respectively, you have been relocated. Not that we grabbed the land," President Tinubu stated, addressing traditional rulers present at the event.
He further added, "Like any government, we want development. But how well we organize and execute them depends on us. Of course, we are here because of the trust you have in us. Thank you very much for your cooperation. And we thank the Minister of FCT too, for relocating your community with peace and good compensation."

This acknowledgement highlights a significant shift in addressing land acquisition for public projects, with the Tinubu istration prioritizing fair treatment and community engagement.

Minister Wike, in his remarks, shed light on the FCT istration's proactive measures in this regard. He revealed that communities along the road corridor received an unprecedented 200 percent compensation for their land. "For the first time, the communities on the road corridor were paid their compensation 200 per cent. I said look, I don't want anything that will stop the construction of this road," Barrister Wike affirmed. He further elaborated, "And when they were paid, I made sure that they were given other areas to go and live."

This decisive action, according to the Minister, not only facilitated seamless project execution but also boosted contractor confidence, leading to timely project completion. The Arterial Road N16 project, awarded just last October, stands as a testament to this renewed trust and efficiency.

The Minister of State, FCT, Dr. Mahmoud, in her remarks during the commissioning ceremony, also lauded President Tinubu's unwavering and Barrister Wike's visionary leadership in transforming Abuja's infrastructure landscape.

Acting Executive Secretary of the FCDA, Engr. Richard Yunana Dauda, while presenting a technical brief of the project, said the Arterial Road N16, a six-lane dual carriageway spanning approximately 3.7 kilometers, and is expected to significantly improve connectivity between key districts like Maitama, Katampe, and Jahi.

President Tinubu's commendation of Barrister Wike underscores a commitment to equitable development, where progress is achieved hand-in-hand with the welfare and rights of all citizens, particularly indigenous communities. This approach sets a new benchmark for infrastructure development across Nigeria.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has affirmed the current istration's commitment to making difficult but necessary decisions to transform Abuja, regardless of entrenched interests.

Speaking at a monthly media chat held at his Life Camp Official Residence on Monday, June 2, 2025, Barrister Wike emphasized that the FCT is now "working" due to a willingness to address long-standing issues that his predecessors shied away from.

The Minister described the current istration as having the courage to "annoy people" and "step on toes" in the pursuit of good governance. He stated, "People had said that FCT was not working and now FCT is working. I’m doing things that they refused to do. I have found out that most of them didn’t have the courage to annoy people, to step on toes."

The Minister further elaborated on his approach, expressing satisfaction in holding powerful individuals able. "I take joy when I step on the toes of big men. Those who say that nothing will happen, I take joy in saying that something will happen. All you want me to do is to take decisions against the poor people, but you the rich man, nothing will happen. Something will happen and that’s why we are getting results. If you don’t do the right thing, too bad. I don’t care. The only person I owe an explanation to is Mr. President."

Barrister Wike stressed that his decisions are driven solely by a commitment to good governance and national progress, rather than any regional or religious affiliations. "I’m not doing it because I’m from a certain place or I belong to a certain religion. I’m doing it because I have to the government, I have to make a difference," he said.

The Minister also reiterated the FCTA's firm stance on collecting outstanding ground rents, some dating back 30 years, to combat impunity and ensure the availability of funds for infrastructure development. He dismissed claims of insufficient notice, stating that the condition for ground rent payment is clearly outlined in title grants.

He challenged those complaining about the enforcement to acknowledge and pay up their ground rent arrears, emphasizing that without revenue, essential infrastructure cannot be provided.

Speaking on the project commissioning spree in the FCT to commemorate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second year anniversary, the Minister announced an ambitious 19-day program, commencing on June 10th. He said President Tinubu is expected to personally commission some key projects, including the long-awaited International Conference Centre, while other senior officials will also inaugurate additional impactful initiatives. This will be followed by the flag-off of new projects slated for completion to celebrate the President's third year in office.

Addressing concerns about Transparency and ability in Financial Management, following the FCTA's exit from the Treasury Single (TSA), Barrister Wike explained that projects exceeding N10 billion require Federal Executive Council (FEC) approval, preceded by Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) assessment. Payments to contractors, he added, are milestone-based, adhering to the procurement act.

He stressed that exiting the TSA has removed bureaucratic bottlenecks, enabling the FCTA to access funding through its Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) and participate in the larger financial market, thereby accelerating project execution.

On efforts to improve mass transportation and bolster security, the Minister announced the provision of bus terminals in Mabushi, Kugbo, and the Central Business District. These terminals, he said, will be inaugurated by President Tinubu this month, with budgetary provisions for buses to be run by profiled and ed private operators, supervised by the FCT Transport Secretariat.

The Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), on Monday, June 2, 2025, held a crucial meeting with the traditional chiefs and representatives of the Kpaduma and Guzape communities over the ongoing road construction project and the concerns raised regarding the evacuation of affected villagers.

The meeting, which took place at the FCT Minister’s conference room in Lifecamp, was convened at the instance of the Minister to address the growing tension surrounding the continued presence of residents in areas marked for development, particularly for the major road infrastructure intended to ease traffic and boost connectivity within the FCT.

During the discussion, the Honourable Minister emphasized the critical importance of the road project to the overall development plan of the capital city. He acknowledged the deep-rooted attachment the communities have to their ancestral lands but appealed for understanding, noting that government’s development efforts must sometimes involve difficult decisions.

In a bid to reach an amicable resolution, the Minister assured the chiefs and their people of government’s commitment to ensure justice and fairness.

He reiterated that every affected individual would be duly compensated and that Right of Occupancy (R of Os) for new resettlement areas would be provided without delay, as was the case with the Gishiri community in Katampe district.

"We are not here to displace anyone unjustly,” the Minister stated. “This is about building a better Abuja for all. We will ensure your people are properly compensated and given legal documents for their new homes".

The Minister, however, clarified that compensation would be paid for only the structures along the road corridor and not the entire community. He also directed that the compensation package should be doubled to ensure fairness.

"I have told the Director of Resettlement to go and make a valuation. But the rate you people are using is too small. Increase their rate. If they are earning N50, give them N100", the Minister stressed.

In response, the traditional leaders of Kpaduma and Guzape, led by the Sapeyi of Garki, Alhaji Usman Nga Kupi, expressed their appreciation to the FCT Minister for his transparency and willingness to engage them directly.

Acknowledging the development benefits the road project would bring to the area, the traditional leaders unanimously agreed to cooperate with the evacuation and resettlement process.

"We are grateful for the Honourable Minister’s assurance and the respect shown to our people. We will this effort in the interest of peace and progress", the Sapeyi remarked.

The meeting ended on a positive note, with both parties committing to ongoing dialogue and collaboration to ensure a smooth and respectful transition for all affected families.

... COMMENDS WIKE'S TRANSFORMATIVE LEADERSHIP IN THE FCT

Former Governor of Benue State, Dr. Samuel Ortom, on Friday, May 30, 2025, lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's "Renewed Hope Agenda" and the impactful work of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, in the FCT.

The commendation came when the former Governor accompanied the FCT Minister on a routine project inspection in Abuja, undertaken to assess the progress of work on projects scheduled for commissioning to commemorate President Tinubu’s second anniversary in office.

Addressing journalists after inspecting the Kugbo and Mabushi bus terminals as well as the access road to Giri District, Dr. Ortom expressed profound appreciation to President Tinubu for appointing Barrister Wike as Minister of the FCT.

The former Benue State Governor emphasized the significant transformation witnessed in the FCT under Barrister Wike's tenure, noting, "I have been here as National Auditor of PDP since 2008 as a resident of the FCT. Honestly, I can tell you that in the last one year, I need a guide to take me around the FCT because of the monumental development and progress we’ve had here".

He acknowledged the challenges facing the nation but affirmed President Tinubu's commitment to national recovery. He said that the President took office at a time when the country faced significant difficulties and is now actively working to restore its stability.

"Yes, we have challenges as a country, we have challenges as a people. But truly, we can attest to the fact that Mr. President came in at a time when the country was from top to bottom. Today, he is trying to lift the country back on its feet again”, he said.

Dr Ortom highlighted President Tinubu’s inclusive approach, alluding to the appointment of Barrister Wike, a prominent member of the opposition party, as FCT Minister. This, Ortom explained, demonstrates a strategic partnership essential for the nation's well-being.

"Mr. President is looking beyond party affiliation, that is why he brought my friend and leader, Barrister Nyesom Wike, a member of the PDP, to be Minister of the FCT, despite the fact that the President won election on the platform of the APC. This is a strategic partnership because if we don’t have a country, we cannot, in anyway, have positions".

Dr. Ortom further advised President Tinubu to maintain a focus on merit and capacity, urging him to be a President for all Nigerians, not just one political party. He stressed that national progress should take precedence over partisan politics, and commended Barrister Wike for his unwavering dedication to President Tinubu’s vision and for making his friends proud.

"He should not be only APC President. He should be PDP President, he should be APGA President and President of all other political parties in this country and he should focus on merit. Those who have capacity to deliver like Minister Nyesom Wike, he should bring them on board. What Nigerians want is to make sure that we make progress. It is not about political parties. Political parties are just alphabets. What is needed is for us to make progress in this country", Ortom stressed.

Expressing his delight with the newly constructed bus terminals, Ortom, called for continued for ongoing reforms and development initiatives of the FCT istration.

In his remarks, the FCT Minister, Barrister Nyesom Wike expressed satisfaction with the quality of work at the bus terminals and reiterated the istration's commitment to further reforms in the transport sector, including enhanced security measures and organized bus and taxi services.

He said, “I’m very happy with what I have seen. The first time we went there, I expressed my dismay. We have gone there today, there is a lot of improvements and by the time the day for commissioning comes and you go back there, it will be something else”.

On the proposed reforms in the transport sector, the Minister said, “Obviously, a lot of things will happen in the transport sector. There will be a lot of reforms. A Committee is working and before we get to commissioning, we will come up with our transport sector reforms because as part of security measures, we must know those who are involved in doing the taxi business and what colour so that if anything happens, we will be able to identify them.

“This time around, we are working to see that we don’t have a lot of parks on the road. And yes, it is a bus and taxi terminal, not just only bus terminal, so that those who they take to the bus terminal will board the taxis from there and go to wherever they want to go”.

As President Bola Ahmed Tinubu marks his second year in office today, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has lauded his "tremendous" and "unprecedented" performance, particularly in the rapid transformation of Abuja's infrastructure over the past two years.

The FCT Minister made these remarks in Abuja on Thursday, May 29, 2025, while briefing journalists, during a routine inspection of ongoing infrastructure projects slated for commissioning to commemorate the milestone.

Emphasizing the significant progress made under President Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda, Barrister Wike said, "From the FCT where I superintend by his mandate, you will know that Mr. President has done very well. It’s unprecedented".

The Minister urged all Nigerians, regardless of political affiliation, to acknowledge the President's tangible successes, sating, "Even if you don’t like somebody as a person, when he does a good thing, you say yes, I’m not in good with him, I don’t like him, but he is doing well or he has done well".

The Minister highlighted the dramatic improvements in the FCT, which he attributed to the leadership style of President Tinubu. He said, "All of us were critics that Abuja has not been working and now Abuja is working. Who has made it to work? It’s Mr. President. So, Mr. President has done very well."

Barrister Wike who was greeted by enthusiastic "four plus four" chants from FCT residents during the project inspection, interpreted the chant as a clear mandate for President Tinubu to serve another term. "What they are saying is that Mr. President has done four years and we should give him another four years," he noted, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to be part of an istration delivering on its promises.

The Minister also provided updates on several key projects all set to be inaugurated as part of the anniversary celebrations, including 15kilometres OSEX II to Wasa road connecting Apo and Wasa District, which has been fully completed as well as the Arterial Road N20 interchange across the ONEX in Jahi District, and the Collector Road CN8 (Asuquo Okon Way) in Dakibiyu, Jabi District, from Arterial Road N5 (Obafemi Awolowo Way) to Arterial Road N1 (Olusegun Obasanjo Way), all nearing completion.

Responding to questions on the absence of streetlights on the OSEX II to Wasa road, Barrister Wike clarified that the project was initiated by a previous istration over a decade ago. However, in line with President Tinubu's commitment to continuity, the current istration is dedicated to its completion. Hence, he confirmed that a quotation for streetlights has been submitted by CGC, and while they may not be part of the inauguration, installation will proceed subsequently, to enhance security in the area. "Be rest assured that we are going to put streetlights on that OSEX II, Apo to Wasa," he affirmed.

He reiterated the commitment of the FCT istration to providing the best for Abuja residents, and urged residents to also fulfill their civic obligations to the ongoing development. "The people of Abuja deserve the best and the contractors are doing their best, I can assure you that. For me, there cannot be anything less. All we are saying is for the residents also to perform their own obligation so that we will all work together for the interest of Abuja and the entire Nigerians".

Addressing the protracted strike by primary school teachers in the FCT over the non-payment of the new minimum wage, Barrister Wike expressed deep concern, equating the denial of education to "trying to cause a coup in the country or in the FCT". He assured the public that all the issues will soon be resolved, saying, "everything is being done to see that the teachers go back to school".

The Minister also spoke on the roles of the National Assembly Committees on FCT Area Councils regarding the matter, urging them to focus on their primary responsibilities, particularly regarding the Area Councils, to help resolve the strike. The Minister said, "Nobody can feel happy that primary school teachers are at home. It’s a basic thing that we must do and I can assure you, very soon, that matter will be resolved".

...SAYS FCTA’LL NOT BE DETERRED BY BLACKMAIL

Minister of the the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike has vowed that the FCT istration will intensify enforcement of the payment of ground rent and would not be deterred by blackmail.

This was a key message from the Minister during an extensive inspection tour of ongoing infrastructure projects in Abuja today, aimed at assessing their readiness for commissioning to mark President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's second year in office.

Despite the evident progress in infrastructure development, the Minister lamented the long-standing issue of ground rent arrears, with some debts dating back twenty to thirty years. He emphasized the disconnect between residents' desire for facilities and their reluctance to contribute financially.

"People just want facilities, people want infrastructure, but nobody asks where are you getting these funds," Barrister Wike remarked. He drew a stark comparison with international practices, noting that "most elites own houses overseas, they know the implication of not paying your taxes. They know such houses are gone. But when it comes to your own country, you don’t want to do that, simply because nobody wants to obey the law."

In a firm stance against non-compliance, the Minister said defaulters have been given a two-week window by the President to regularize their ground rent payments. He stated unequivocally that the FCTA would not succumb to blackmail and is resolute in doing "the right thing.".

“I can assure you that the President has given a window of two weeks. Let nobody think that blackmail or whatever will stop us. we will do what we are supposed to do. This is all about leadership. We will not cave in to blackmail. We will do the right thing.

“I have said it; that it did not happen yesterday does not mean it will not happen today. That it did not happen today does not mean it will not happen tomorrow, the Minister stressed.

Barrister Wike also revealed that he has signed over 1,500 Certificates of Occupancy and Deeds of Assignments in recent weeks, urging residents to fulfill their obligations. He assured them that prompt tax payments would significantly enhance the FCTA's capacity to deliver even more infrastructure projects.

Turning to the key projects he inspected, including the International Conference Centre (ICC), and Arterial Roads N5 and N16, Barrister Wike expressed satisfaction with the progress of work, highlighting the FCTA's dedication to delivering critical infrastructure. He confirmed that the ICC is fully ready, while the Arterial Road N5 (Obafemi Awolowo Way) is 95% complete and expected to be fully ready by next week. The N16 interchange, connecting Maitama and Katampe districts, has also seen significant completion, with sections soon to be opened to traffic.

The Minister also took the opportunity to address recent concerns regarding a security incident at Mogadishu Cantonment (Abacha Barracks), clarifying that reports of a suicide bomber were inaccurate. He explained that the incident involved an individual who picked up an explosive from a quarry, which subsequently detonated on him.

Barrister Wike cautioned against unverified stories that could instill fear and reassured residents of the FCT istration’s continuous efforts to improve security, affirming Abuja remains one of the most secure places in the country.

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Executive Committee (EXCO) on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, announced the approval of several contracts aimed at significantly enhancing infrastructure development across the nation’s capital. The approvals came during the Committee’s 3rd meeting of the year, chaired by the FCT Minister, Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike.

The approved contracts will address critical areas, including urban maintenance, road infrastructure, security, and public facilities.

Briefing journalists shortly after the Executive Committee Meeting, Coordinator of the Abuja Metropolitan Management Council (AMMC), Chief Felix Obuah, said contracts were approved for the operation and maintenance of Apo Erector and an extension of the service contract for the Wupa Basic Sewage Treatment Plant. Additionally, the Committee, he said, approved a two-month extension for solid waste collection and management services across 40 districts in the FCT. These contracts, he said, underscore the FCT istration's commitment to enhancing urban maintenance and waste management.

Also addressing journalists, the Ag Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Engr. Richard Yunana Dauda, detailed significant approvals for road infrastructure. A major highlight is the upgrading and of obsolete streetlights on the Nnamdi Azikiwe Expressway (Ring Road 1). He said the 14-kilometer, 10-lane expressway, whose streetlights had deteriorated over the 15 years since they were installed, will now benefit from a hybrid lighting system to enhance security and improve night time driving experience.

In a bid to restrict the movement of pedestrians, Engr. Dauda said the Executive Committee also approved the provision of pedestrian access control at interchanges in 12 locations in the FCT. Engr. Dauda explained that these projects, involving fencing green areas at the interchanges with mesh wire and providing walkways, are crucial for securing sensitive areas, curbing the movement of miscreants, preventing open defecation, and ultimately, beautifying the city's interchanges. He added that the Committee also approved the construction of a Magistrate Court in Jabi, in addition to the two earlier approved in Asokoro and Garki.

Engr. Dauda further disclosed that significant strides are also expected in district development, with approved contracts for the construction of access roads, drainages, and culverts in Durumi District, totaling approximately 1.7 kilometers of new roads. Similarly, the Executive Secretary said infrastructure will be provided in Mabushi District, including access roads, underground drainage services, street lighting, and essential facilities like water and sewage collection.

In a move to bolster security, Engr. Dauda added that the FCT Executive Committee approved a contract for renovation, furnishing, and technical installations at the Department of State Security headquarters. Also, an emergency contract was awarded and completed to control erosion impacting major pipelines from the Lower Usuma Dam, which supplies water to Kubwa, the Airport, and Gwagwalada, safeguarding a critical water supply network.

In the words of the Executive Secretary, “Erosion had taken place at the major pipelines feeding the various tanks from the Lower Usuma dam up to Gwagwalada and it was a threat to the major water supply to all these areas. So, a company called CGC was invited and they carried out the work on an emergency basis and that has been completed”.

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has announced the intention of the Federal Capital Territory istration (FCTA) to establish new bus terminals in the Bwari and Gwagwalada Area Councils to enhance transportation in the FCT.

Barrister Wike made the revelation in Abuja on Saturday, May 17, 2025, during an inspection of the extensive renovation of the International Conference Centre (ICC) and the upgrading of the Ushafa, War College, and Army Checkpoint roads in Bwari Area Council.

Speaking to journalists after the inspection, Barrister Wike emphasized that the new bus terminals in the satellite towns, when established, will complement existing facilities in the city centre, significantly improving transportation for residents. He also highlighted the crucial role the terminals will play in addressing the menace of car robbery, commonly known as "one chance."

According to the Minister, "We have agreed that we are going to establish one bus terminal in Gwagwalada and one in Bwari. This will ensure that people can safely and securely travel from Bwari and Gwagwalada to various parts of the city, including Mabushi, Kugbo, and the Central Business District bus terminal. By providing these designated terminals, we aim to eliminate the problem of 'one chance' and ensure the safety of commuters".

Barrister Wike reiterated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's commitment to bridging the infrastructural gaps in the FCT, emphasizing that the focus of the "Renewed Hope Agenda" extends beyond the city centre to include the development of satellite towns. He highlighted the ongoing 12-kilometer road project linking the entire Ushafa area and the ongoing dualization of the Kuje-Gwagwalada road as testaments to this commitment.

"The government of President Ahmed Bola Tinubu is particularly concerned about and paying attention to the satellite towns," the Minister affirmed, adding that rural transformation is key to the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President.

Barrister Wike also stressed that the significant upgrade of the International Conference Centre, aligns with President Tinubu's directive to provide Nigerians with world-class facilities.

The Minister equally emphasized the long-term benefits of infrastructure developments in the FCT, stating that it will reduce travel times from the satellite towns to the city, encourage people to reside within the satellite towns thereby decongesting the city.

He said the essence of Providing basic amenities in the satellite towns is to curb rural-to-urban migration, which, he said, is mostly driven by the lack of infrastructure in the rural area.

“It will be a different thing, and people will no longer be compelled to live in the cities”, the Minister said.

…As he Inspects Ongoing Road Projects in satellite towns

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has stressed the role of road infrastructure in driving the development of any nation, highlighting its impact on access to education, healthcare and agricultural produce.

Barr. Wike stated this while addressing journalists shortly after inspecting ongoing road construction projects across Gwagwalada and Kwali Area Councils in the FCT on Friday, May 16, 2025.

The road projects inspected are the 10-kilometer Aguma Palace-Radio Nigeria-New Market Road in Gwagwalada and the 15-kilometer A2 to Pai road from the Abuja Lokoja Expressway to Pai community in Kwali Area Council.

The Minister said, “Road network is what brings development. When there are no roads, which school will you go to? When there are no roads, which hospital will you go to? So, first of all, the key thing that drives development is the road network all over the world. If you are talking about agriculture, how do you go and bring your produce when there are no roads?”

He highlighted the positive impact these roads will have on local farmers in the FCT, enabling them to transport their produce to urban markets. Furthermore, the Minister emphasized the role of well-lit roads in enhancing security, saying, “You see this kind of road with streetlights, obviously, you have to think twice before you commit any offence.”

The Minister expressed his satisfaction with the positive reception from the local communities in response to these road projects, saying it reinforces the FCT istration’s commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda.

He said, “We are happy when the people express their happiness over the performance of government. That of course energizes you and tells you that you are doing the right thing. When we went to the Aguma Palace road, you could see the enthusiasm of the people there; the market people, the residents showed how happy they were. They were shouting that renewed hope is working and that is what we have assured Nigerians, that Renewed Hope is not just mere talks. It is something that has come to stay”.

Barr. Wike, who also noted the significant progress made on the A2 to Pai road in Kwali Area Council, praised the contractor for the quality of the infrastructure, including the installation of streetlights. He attributed the success of the FCTA in the completion of various projects to President Bola Tinubu’s leadership and , adding that the FCT istration is happy to fulfill all the promises it made to residents.

“We thank God Almighty that we are able to accomplish this, and that is what I have always said - when you have the right leadership. Mr. President has shown the right leadership. There is no magic about it. When you have the right leadership, you are bound to achieve results. All those working with you will queue, knowing fully well that this is your vision, knowing fully well that this is your mission, you are committed to it and you want to achieve results. So, nobody will have excuses to give”, the Minister said.

Addressing the broader development agenda of the istration, the Minister affirmed government’s commitment to improving infrastructure and services across all sectors, including education and health, explaining that over 60 schools have been renovated and furnished in the FCT.

“We’ve done a lot of work on schools... the schools we have renovated and furnished are more than 60 schools, but I can tell you, no sector will be left abandoned. Every sector will be focused on,” the Minister said.

…Unveils Infrastructure Plans for President's Anniversary

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike has disclosed plans by the FCT istration's to withhold 10 percent of the statutory allocation to the FCT Area Councils over the non-payment of minimum wage to primary school teachers in the FCT.

Barrister Woke made the revelation during the monthly media chat with some journalists at his official residence in Life Camp, Abuja on Monday, May 12, 2025.

This decision, according to the Minister, is in response to the ongoing strike by the teachers due to the non-payment of the new minimum wage by the Area Councils. Barrister Wike expressed his disappointment over the situation, stating that it was very unfortunate that the primary school teachers have had to resort to strike to press for their entitlement.

The Minister said he engaged with the Council Chairmen upon the commencement of the issue to understand the reasons for their inability to pay, adding that he directed that funds should be released to them to facilitate the payment of the new minimum wage, describing the continued striking situation as embarrassing.

The Minister further emphasized his limitations in directly intervening in the affairs of the elected Area Council Chairmen but asserted his responsibility to protect the welfare of FCT residents, particularly the education of children. "I have limits; I cannot sack them because they are elected. Therefore, I have taken the step to withhold 10 percent of their Internally Generated Revenue (IGR)”.

He said a committee will be established to ensure that as funds are released, the teachers are paid directly.

Addressing concerns about contravening the autonomy of Local Government Areas, the Minister firmly stated, "Do you want me to fold our arms and allow our children to be at home because you want LGA autonomy? I have withheld 10 percent of their allocation to ensure that they do what is right”.

The Minister reaffirmed that funds had been previously released to the councils for the payment of the new minimum wage, but regretted that this directive was not complied with. He said he will ensure this money is paid directly to the teachers so that “our children can return to school."

Beyond the pressing issue of the teachers' strike, Barrister Wike also outlined significant plans to commemorate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's second year anniversary with the unveiling of several completed infrastructure projects. He revealed that he had briefed the President on the readiness of these projects, suggesting it would take two weeks to inaugurate them all.

Noting that the President may delegate some commissioning duties to the Vice President, Senate President, Speaker, and other key officials, the Minister expressed hope for the President's physical presence at some of the inaugurations to foster a stronger connection with the populace.

Notable projects slated for commissioning, according to the Minister, include roads in Ketti, Takushara, A2 to Pai, Ushafa, and War College areas, spanning across four Area Councils.

The Minister also stated that numerous projects within the city will also be inaugurated, including the long-overdue renovation of the International Conference Centre (ICC).

He described the ICC's condition prior to the renovation as an "eyesore" and highlighted the President's commitment to addressing such issues. The Minister added that a maintenance contract has been signed with Julius Berger, with costs to be covered by revenue generated by the fully commercialized facility. The Abuja Investment Company and the Minister will tly oversee the ICC, with a focus on sustainability and preventing its deterioration.

Other city projects include the completion of the Arterial Road N5, N16, and the road leading to the new Court of Appeal division in Jabi. The commissioning activities, according to the Minister, are scheduled to commence from May 29th and extend into June, with the specific dates to be determined by the President's protocol.

The Minister of the FCT, Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has expressed his satisfaction with the significant progress made on two critical infrastructure projects within the Federal Capital Territory - the 15-kilometer Inner Northern Expressway (INEX) from Ring Road III to Idu Industrial area and the Arterial Road N20 Interchange at Jahi.

During an inspection visit to the project sites on Monday, May 12, 2025, the Minister highlighted the near completion of the 15km INEX, saying that it would be one of the projects slated for inauguration during the celebration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second year in office.

The Minister said, "The 15 kilometers Inner Northern Expressway (INEX) which is being handled by Salini, you can see it’s almost completed. The bridge has crossed over the rail line at Idu. The last time we went there, they assured us that within one week, they would have casted the bridge. Today, we rode on it. We are happy.

"We believe, by the special grace of God, it is one of the projects that will be inaugurated by Mr. President during his second year anniversary celebration".

The Minister who also visited the site of the N20 interchange, which links the Outer Northern Expressway (ONEX) and the Northern Parkway, applauded the contractors' commitment to meeting project timelines.

"We were also at the N20 interchange flying over the Outer Northern Expressway (ONEX) leading to Kubwa. The contractors have assured us once again that they are going to meet up. They are working day and night. last time we came here, this place was not casted and I have confidence that in the next two weeks, it will be a different thing," the Minister observed.

Beyond the pace of work, Barr. Wike emphasized the importance of the quality of the projects. "What is more important is the quality of the jobs. I’m very impressed with the contractors that are handling the two projects we just visited – the INEX and this Jahi interchange. We are very happy with what they are doing," he concluded.

…THANKS MR. PRESIDENT FOR HIS VISIONARY LEADERSHIP

The Federal Capital Territory istration (FCTA) will unveil completed infrastructure projects within a two-week period to celebrate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second year anniversary.

FCT Minister, Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike disclosed this in Abuja on Saturday, May 10, 2025, during a press briefing shortly after inspecting ongoing infrastructure projects in the Abuja city center.

Barrister Wike said the projects to be inaugurated cut across the Abuja city centre, the satellite towns and the rural areas, reflecting the FCTA’s commitment to inclusive development.

Key projects slated for commissioning, according to the Minister, include the Arterial Road N16, connecting Maitama and Katampe districts, the 16-kilometer OSEX II to Wasa service carriageway, linking Apo and Wasa districts, the Arterial Road N5 from Lifecamp Junction to Ring Road III, the renovated International Conference Centre (ICC), the Greater Abuja Water project and various rural roads.

The Minister said the commissioning of the projects will take two weeks, highlighting the magnitude of development achieved so far.

According to the Minister, “By next week, we will be able to provide all the projects that will be inaugurated during Mr. President’s second year in office. The Arterial Road N16 is one of them, OSEX to Wasa junction is also one of them. The International Conference Centre is another one. The N5 from Lifecamp junction to Ring Road III is another one. So, we will have so many roads, both rural, satellite towns and the city. Even the Greater Abuja Water project will also be another one that will be inaugurated. So, we have a lot of projects. It will take us about two weeks to inaugurate most of the projects”.

Barr. Wike attributed these achievements to the exemplary leadership of President Tinubu, stressing that he is proud to align with the President's vision, which, he said, has brought first-class infrastructure to the FCT.

The Minister added that the Renewed Hope Agenda is working in the FCT, stressing that the transformation in the nation’s capital was clear for all to see and thanked the President for the opportunity to deliver the dividends of democracy to FCT residents.

He said, “I’m happy to identify with the leadership of Mr. President and that is what Nigeria needs. Mr. President has given first class infrastructure to Abuja. All of you can attest to the fact that indeed, Abuja has really changed and so we are happy for it and we want to thank God Almighty for providing the right leadership through Mr. President, to provide the dividends of democracy to the residents of Abuja. I don’t see why anybody will say Mr. President has not done well. We are happy that we have fulfilled the promises we have made”.

Speaking on the projects inspected, Barr. Wike expressed satisfaction with the progress made by the contractor, China Geo-Engineering Corporation (CGC), on the OSEX II to Wasa carriageway and the Arterial Road N16. He also noted the positive reception from residents, especially traders along the OSEX II to Wasa route.

Barrister Wike urged residents to take ownership of the infrastructure projects and protect them against vandalism. He said, "These projects are for the benefit of all, and we must work together to safeguard them..”.

The Minister also outlined plans for further development, including expanding water provision to satellite towns in Bwari, Karu, and Kubwa, continuing road construction and rehabilitation within the city, renovation of schools and enhancement of security measures.

He reiterated the commitment of the FCT istration to provide the necessary infrastructure and ensure their sustainability in the FCT.

"Our priority is to improve the quality of life for all FCT residents, and we are dedicated to delivering projects that meet their needs and expectations", he emphasized.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has revealed plans by the FCT istration to provide water supply to key satellite towns of the FCT.

Addressing journalists during a routine inspection of ongoing projects in the Abuja city center, Barr. Wike disclosed that the FCT satellite town water project is in line with the directive of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The Minister stated that project is in addition to the ongoing efforts to provide water supply to parts of the Abuja city centre and FCT Area Councils, adding that adequate provisions have been made in the budget for this purpose.

It will be recalled that after the visit to China with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, late last year, the Minister had signed MOUs with some Chinese companies to extend water supply to some Area Councils of the FCT.

He added that his recent investment-driven trip to China was to consolidate on the satellite town water project.

According to the FCT Minister, “You last year, when Mr. President visited China, we were fortunate to be part of that visit. And part of the agreement we signed was the provision of water to some of the satellite towns.

And as I speak to you, Mr. President has also included the funding in the national budget, which has been ed. We have also included in our statutory budget which has been laid before the National Assembly. That is a critical project for Mr. President. Part of our inauguration this second year is the Abuja city water supply, which will be done along the airport road.

But having done that, what about the satellite towns? Mr. President said we must also provide water within the satellite towns. So, we are starting with Bwari, Karu and parts of Kubwa. It is now with the Bureau of Public Procurement where the procurement is ongoing and the company that is doing it will be CGC, because they are the ones doing the Greater Abuja Water Supply. So, things are moving on well to the glory of God. All these is also because we have a strong from Mr. President. So, be assured that things are going on well”.

The Minister also provided updates on the projects he inspected, including the ongoing renovation of the Abuja International Conference Centre and the construction of the Arterial Road N5, from Lifecamp junction to Ring Road III, both slated for commissioning during President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second-year anniversary celebrations.

He expressed satisfaction with the progress of work, especially at the ICC and commended the contractor, Julius Berger for the good job.

“I want to commend Julius Berger for the quality job done at the International Conference Centre. It is what Abuja deserves,” Barr. Wike said. “Mr. President directed that everything must be done to bring it to a standard that Nigerians will be proud of. This is leadership. Similarly, Julius Berger has assured us that they will hand over the Arterial Road N5 project as planned. We appreciate their commitment and quality of work.”

Addressing concerns regarding health and education infrastructure, Barr. Wike said adequate provisions have been made in the budget for the provision of infrastructure in these sectors.

He explained that 85 percent of the FCT’s 2025 statutory budget, recently presented to the National Assembly by President Tinubu, is earmarked for the completion of ongoing projects, including those in the health and education sectors, adding that the education sector alone has capital projects worth no less than N140 billion.

According to the Minister, “When they say projects, it does not only mean road projects. So, education, health is part of the ongoing projects. Particularly in education, if you see the number of schools that are being renovated, I think the education sector has nothing less than N140 billion in of capital projects. So, they are ongoing projects. People should not think that ongoing projects is only road infrastructure. We have a lot of health facilities that we have started and we have to budget for them to be completed”.

Barr Wike also reiterated the FCT istration’s commitment to ensure that all ongoing projects are completed to benefit the residents of Abuja, adding that the intention is to complete existing projects, not to award new ones.

He said, “It’s not to go and award new projects. Complete the ones that are there, let it not be abandoned project. What I have seen in people is that they want to be the ones awarding new projects. But that is not our intention. Our intention is to continue with what we saw. Government is a continuum. Its public funds and we will complete it. We are not here to say we awarded this or that. That’s why we say renewed hope agenda. All those hopes that are lost, we will bring it back”.

In a bid to resolve the ongoing strike action by primary school teachers in the FCT over the non-payment of their entitlements and the new minimum wage, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike has summoned the Area Council Chairmen to an urgent meeting.

The Minister disclosed this while addressing newsmen in Abuja on Thursday, April 24, 2025, during a routine inspection of key road infrastructure projects slated for commissioning in May as part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second anniversary.

Barr. Wike described the industrial action by the teachers and council workers as unfortunate, stating that the Area Council Chairmen had failed to pay the teachers despite releasing approved funds.

The Minister further expressed dismay over the non-payment of the entitlements of the primary school teachers who are responsible for the education of young children, emphasizing that primary schools fall under the purview of the Area Councils.

While summoning the chairmen to a meeting, the Minister appealed to the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) to exercise patience while the issues were being resolved.

According to him, “It’s unfortunate and we have to tell ourselves the simple truth. The Area Council Chairmen, after I have approved money to be sent to them for them to be able to pay the teachers, they were unable to do that. In fact, I got the report yesterday and I have been able to summon all of them."

Continuing, the Minister said, “I don’t know why people don’t have conscience that these are teachers who take care of our children and you are happy that you are not paying them their salaries. This is primary school teachers, not secondary school teachers. It’s the responsibility of the councils; they are in charge of the primary schools. So, I have summoned them to a meeting and also continue to appeal to NUT to give them some time that these things will be sorted out”.

Providing updates on several key road projects inspected, including the OSEX left-hand service carriageway, the N20 (Wole Soyinka Way) interchange and the full scope development of the Arterial Road N5 from Life Camp Junction to Ring Road III, the Minister expressed satisfaction with the quality of work and reiterated the commitment of the FCT istration to meet its obligations to ensure timely completion.

"Generally, we are happy with the quality of work that is being carried out by all the contractors. We on our part will do everything possible to keep to our own obligation so that they will not find excuses why they were unable to fulfil their own obligation," the Minister stated.

Responding to a question on the costs of the project, Barr Wike stated that the financial details would be provided during an of stewardship. He however disclosed the virement of approximately N10 billion by the National Assembly for the N5 road project, expressing confidence that the funds will be utilized effectively before the expiration of the 2024 budget.

The Minister also affirmed that the projects align with the Renewed Hope Agenda and are beneficial to residents. He said: “I think we are happy that it will be part of the anniversary for Mr. President. Indeed, the Renewed Hope Agenda is working and people are happy with what they are seeing”.

Ahead of President Tinubu's second anniversary, FCT Minister, Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike inspected ongoing projects, including the ICC renovation by Julius Berger, the N16 access road by CGC, and the Maitama-Katampe bridge.

The Minister expressed general satisfaction with the quality and pace of work on all the inspected projects.

Wike, however, voiced strong disapproval regarding the subcontracting of the main ICC conference hall's furnishing to a separate contractor, deeming this arrangement "unacceptable."

The Minister emphasized that he expects a uniform standard of quality throughout the ICC renovation, implying that different contractors for different parts could lead to inconsistencies.

He stated, "You cannot say the upper part is furnished by Julius Berger and the lower part is furnished by another company. It’s not acceptable to me."

The FCT Minister said he has summoned key officials, including representatives from Julius Berger, the Executive Secretary of the FCDA, and the GMD of the Abuja Investment Company to provide clarification on who authorized the subcontracting and the funding arrangements.

The Minister made it clear that he approved the entire ICC renovation contract with Julius Berger and is demanding answers about the involvement of another entity. He hinted at potential consequences if any "shady" dealings are uncovered, stating, "...if anything shady went on, you will hear that I have applied the big stick. Nobody will be a sacred cow.”

Speaking on the observed progress on the Arterial Road N16 project, the Minister expressed his satisfaction with the quality of work being delivered by CGC. He noted the continuous work being carried out, even at night, based on security reports, and expressed confidence that the project would be completed within the stipulated timeframe to commemorate the President’s second-year anniversary.

He commended the company and assured residents of the istration’s commitment to timely completion.

The Minister said: “I’m happy with what the company, CGC, is doing. From the security reports, even when you come here at night, they are working. I believe by the grace of God, they will meet up with the timeline for the second-year anniversary of Mr. President.

“I’m happy with the quality job they have done. I’m sure those who are living within this neighborhood are happy with what they are seeing now. So, I congratulate them, and I assure them on our part, we will do what we can to make sure the job is completed on schedule.”

- PROMISES INAUGURATION BY MAY

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, on Saturday, 19th April 2025, conducted a thorough inspection of the ongoing construction of two vital road networks in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC).

The roads inspected were the 10.5-kilometer Kabusa/Ketti road, which connects Kabusa, Pyakasa, and Ketti Districts, as well as the 9.8-kilometer Kabusa/Takushara road linking Kabusa, Takushara, and Wasa Districts.

Speaking with journalists during the inspection, the Minister reiterated the istration's commitment to extending development beyond the city center to the satellite towns, echoing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's consistent directive.

"We've been to Ketti and the road from Kabusa to Takushara. The emphasis Mr. President has always made is that we should not only concentrate in the cities. We should take development to the satellite towns. You can see how happy the residents were in Ketti in particular, which is a heavily populated area".

The Minister also acknowledged the crucial role of the Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Hon. Christopher Maikalangu, in bringing the urgent need for these road projects to the attention of the FCT istration and commended the Chairman for his efforts. He said, "I want to commend the Chairman of AMAC who drew our attention to these two very important roads. But for him, probably we may not have taken our attention to this place."

Expressing satisfaction with the progress made by the contractors, the Minister expressed optimism that both roads would be inaugurated by the end of May, coinciding with President Tinubu’s second-year anniversary. He said, "I’m happy with what the contractors are doing and hopefully, by the end of May, these two roads will be inaugurated as part of the second year anniversary of Mr. President. So, we are very happy with what we have seen."

Regarding the potential impact that the road projects will have on rural-urban migration, the Minister explained that the improved connectivity would make it unnecessary for people to relocate to the city. He said the short travel time to the city, facilitated by the road network, is expected to encourage people to build homes in the areas, offering a more affordable alternative to city living and fostering economic growth in the communities.

"With this road being done, you don’t need to say let us go and stay in the city. From here to the city is not up to 10 minutes, and that’s what road network brings. It will open up the entire place. You will see people will like to come and build houses here instead of staying in the city that appears to be more expensive.

“I’m sure that most people will be looking out on how they can have a plot of land in these areas where they can develop so that they will stop paying rent in the city. So, this road will open up the two communities as well as the economy of the place", he said.

The Minister also reaffirmed a previous pledge to build schools in the area, stating that this plan remains a priority, pending the age of the 2025 statutory budget. "I that when we came here to flag off these projects, I promised them that I will build schools, which is still on my table, and I’m waiting for the age of the 2025 statutory budget for us to commence. So, I think we are happy, and I know the people are happy," he said.

Responding to a request for road construction within the Federal Housing Estate in Lugbe, the Minister clarified that the responsibility for infrastructure within the estate lies with the Federal Housing Authority. He said the focus of the FCT istration was on developing roads that connect districts and satellite towns, rather than internal estate roads.

"The estate belongs to the Federal Housing Authority. They should be able to take care of their estate. The roads we should do are roads that will open up the entire city... We have told the Federal Housing estate that that land was allocated to them, and they built the estate and sold to residents. Let us open up the areas that link up to the major cities and the satellite towns before we begin to talk about building roads within estates," the Minister explained.

The Minister also used the opportunity to extend Easter greetings to all FCT residents, echoing the President's call for unity and collaboration among Nigerians. He assured residents of the istration's commitment to fulfilling its promises.

He said, “Just like what Mr. President has always preached, Nigerians should be united, Nigerians should work together for the interest of Nigerians. So, I use this particular period to wish everybody Happy Easter and be assured that the promises we have made, by the grace of God, we are going to keep them".

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has reiterated that the ongoing routine inspections of infrastructure projects across the FCT are a crucial measure to guarantee that all jobs are executed to the highest specified standards.

Addressing journalists during one of the inspections on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, the Minister emphasized the importance of the site visits in ensuring the quality and timely completion of projects.

According to him, “I do know that for us, we cannot just sit in the offices to say that jobs are going on. It is part of our jobs to go and see for ourselves, to look at the quality of the jobs. Yesterday, you may recall that when we went to the Mabushi bus terminal, we corrected some specific things. If you don’t go out, then you may be embarrassed on the day of the commissioning, as this is not what you expected, and by that time, it will be too late. So, inspection is part of the assignment to make sure that the job is not only done but is done very well.”

The Minister provided updates on several key projects inspected, including the Giri District Road Network, the 16-kilometer Inner Northern Expressway (INEX) with a 15 span bridge connecting the Idu Industrial area to the Kubwa/Zuba expressway, the Collector Road CN8 from the Moshood Abiola Way to Dakibiyu in Jabi District and the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal Complex also in Jabi District.

He stated that the Giri District roads project and the INEX, being handled by Levante Construction Limited and Salini Nigeria Limited, respectively, are both expected to be completed by the end of May, while the Court of Appeal complex is slated for commissioning in September 2025.

According to him “I went to the road opening up the Giri District, which is where you have the EFCC academy and the University of Abuja. We believe that our work there will significantly open up the district. The contractor, Levante, has assured us that the project will be handed over by the end of May.

“We also visited the Inner Northern Expressway (INEX) being handled by Salini. We believe that by the grace of God, Salini has promised that they will hand over the project by the end of May. We also inspected the Road CN8 in Jabi District as well as the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal complex, also in Jabi”.

The Minister further expressed satisfaction with the progress made on the Inner Northern Expressway bridge across the rail line in Idu District, noting the significant improvement in its condition.

He said, “You that each time I go there, I complain about the roughness, but now you can see that they have improved on it. I’m quite impressed that from Idu, it now connects to the road going to Zuba, which is very important for us.”

Barr. Wike expressed his pleasure with the positive impact these projects will have on the FCT communities, highlighting their alignment with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He also stressed the transformative impact of the improved road networks on FCT's connectivity and urban development.

He said, “It gives us pleasure, and we are happy with what we are doing. We are also happy that the people are happy. You can imagine the communities there, how they feel that today, they have a road connecting them to other parts of Abuja. That, of course, is the Renewed Hope Agenda. We are happy that the promises made are being kept to the glory of God.”

The FCT Minister equally emphasized government’s commitment to fulfilling its obligations to contractors to avoid delays in the execution of projects.

The FCT Minister, Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has said that the significant reforms in land istration in the FCT are aimed at combating land speculation and accelerating the development of the nation’s capital.

Speaking with journalists shortly after a routine inspection of key infrastructure projects in the Abuja city centre on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, Barr. Wike clarified that the reforms are designed to discourage individuals from holding onto land allocations for speculative purposes, often waiting for market appreciation before selling. He stressed the importance of timely development and payment to ensure the efficient allocation and utilization of land resources.

According to him, “We are trying to stop land speculators. Somebody who says he wants land in Abuja but cannot develop it in two years …that’s land speculation. Secondly, if you have been given allocation, you should be able to pay within 21 days to have your C of O. What is wrong with that? That’s also to generate funds for the government.”

Addressing concerns regarding the 21-day deadline for the payment of associated fees for the issuance of Certificate of Occupancy, Barr. Wike questioned, “Why would you not pay your fees within 21 days? What is wrong with it? There is nothing wrong. You cannot apply for land and then you don’t have money to pay for the C of O. It doesn’t make sense. 21 days is enough.”

He also asserted that the FCT Minister possesses the authority to implement these reforms without the need for additional enabling legislation.

Speaking on his observation of all the projects sites he visited, the FCT Minister expressed satisfaction with the progress of work on the projects, including the 15-kilometer Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX) connecting Apo and Wasa Districts, the Mabushi Bus Terminal, and the Arterial Road N20 (Wole Soyinka Way) and its interchanges linking Jahi to the Kubwa/Zuba expressway and Jabi/Utako Districts.

He said, “The one from Apo to Wasa, you can see that the CGC is doing a very good job. By the grace of God that will be ready by May. The one to Kubwa that is the interchange which is being carried out by Gilmor, they have also assured us that that also will be ready”.

At the Mabushi Bus Terminal, the Minister emphasized the importance of quality finishing and directed the Secretary of Transport, Dr Elechi Chinedum to ensure all necessary corrections are made.

“By and large, I think we are on schedule. We are happy with what we are seeing, but the finishing of structures like this (the bus terminal) is key and I pointed out some of the things I felt should be corrected,” he concluded.

The Minister indicated that these projects are expected to be commissioned in May to commemorate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second year anniversary.

ALLOTTEE MUST PAY STIPULATED FEES WITHIN 21 DAYS, DEVELOP ALLOCATED LAND WITHIN TWO YEARS...

To foster sustainable urban development, boost investor confidence, and ensure that property owners in the FCT have secure and legally recognized land titles, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, CON, has approved key reforms in land istration in the FCT, effective Monday, April 21, 2025.

The Director, Land istration, FCTA, Chijioke Nwankwoeze made this revelation during a press briefing in Abuja on Friday, April 11, 2025.

The reforms According to him, encom critical aspects of land istration in the FCT, including the conditions for granting Statutory Rights of Occupancy, the content of these titles and Letters of Acceptance, the titling of Mass Housing and the regularization of land documents issued by Area Councils.

Explaining the reforms, the Director of Land revealed that a strict and non-extendable payment deadline of 21 days has been introduced for land allottees to make full payment of all prescribed bills, fees, rents and charges for statutory rights of occupancy. Additionally, a duly completed Letter of Acceptance and evidence of payment must be submitted within this timeframe, failing which the offer shall be withdrawn. Any payments made after the 21-day period, he said, will be considered invalid.

Furthermore, a defined timeframe of two years has also been introduced for allottees to develop their land in the FCT, commencing from the date of the Statutory Right of Occupancy. The move, the Director said, is aimed at addressing revenue delays for the FCTA, encouraging infrastructure development and reducing land speculation and racketeering in the FCT among others.

On the regularisation of Area Council Land Documents, the Director, said Allottees with successfully vetted and confirmed Area Council land documents will be granted 60 days to make full payment of all prescribed bills, fees, rents, and charges to receive statutory titles, in line with the provision of the law. Failure to comply within this period will render the offers invalid, he said.

The Director recalled that the FCT istration, in a bid to ensure that all land allocated by the FCT Area Councils are regularized, as provided by the law, directed the Zonal Land, Planning and Survey offices of the six Area Councils to submit all Area Council allocation lists, layout, files and s to the Abuja Geographic Information System (AGIS)/Lands Department which was done by the Area Councils.

According to him, while the FCT Area Councils submitted 261,914 land documents for regularization between 2006 and 2023, only a mere 3.2% amounting to 8,287 were vetted, with just 2,358 regularized.

On the issuance of titles to mass housing projects and sectional interests, the Director said holders and occupiers of properties within Mass Housing Estates in the FCT will now have a clear pathway to obtain their titles. He said subscribers and Developers are required to submit applications for titling to the Department of Land istration for processing, commencing on April 21, 2025.

According to him, “In recognition of the urgent need to issue titles to the beneficiaries of Mass Housing and Sectional Interests, all applications for titling are to be made by the Subscribers/Developers to the Department of Land istration for processing. Processing of titles for Mass Housing and Sectional Interests shall commence on April 21, 2025, in line with the new operational framework”.

He expressed confidence that these significant reforms will streamline processes, enhance revenue generation, curb land speculation, and ensure timely development of allocated lands, as well as provide titles to beneficiaries of Mass Housing schemes and regularise Area Council land allocations

The FCT Minister, Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has announced his intention to request President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s presence in the FCT Area Councils to commission completed infrastructure projects during the celebration of the President’s second year in office.

Barr. Wike disclosed this while addressing journalists shortly after a routine inspection of ongoing infrastructure projects, slated for commissioning in May to commemorate President Tinubu’s second-year anniversary, across Gwagwalada, Kwali, and Bwari Area Councils of the FCT on Saturday, April 5, 2025.

He expressed optimism that the President's visit to the FCT Area Councils will strengthen ties with the people at the grassroots level, adding that they will also have the opportunity to see their President in person.

The Minister said, “We are going to work that out, at least he (Mr. President) should be able to go to one of the Area Councils and let the people see that yes, this is their President, not just commissioning roads in the cities.

“We will plead that he visits at least one or two Area Councils so that the people will be happy that yes, this is their President. We can assure you that he will at least go to Gwagwalada, go to Kwali or Bwari where we have the Law School. We are going to make sure that Mr. President comes to identify with his people”, the Minister stressed.

Barr. Wike recalled President Tinubu’s earlier directive to prioritize the development of satellite towns to decongest the Abuja city center. He emphasized that the President is very keen on developing the satellite towns, thereby reducing travel time for residents commuting to the city.

“Mr. President is very keen on developing the satellite towns and with this, how many minutes will you have to drive to the city? …He did direct that while we are working in the cities, we should also emphasize the development of the satellite towns,” the Minister said.

On his assessment of the project sites visited, the FCT Minister expressed satisfaction with the progress and quality of work observed at various project sites, including the 10km Agoma Palace/Market/Park roads and other internal roads in Gwagwalada Area Council, the 15km A2 to Pai road in Kwali Area Council, as well as the War College/Army Checkpoint and other ancillary roads within the Bwari Area Council.

He described the projects as good-quality jobs executed by good-quality contractors, adding that the istration is keeping to standard, providing quality infrastructure that will make the people happy and turn around the economies of the areas concerned.

The Minister said “We have gone round to three satellite towns in three Area Councils. Look at the A2 to Pai, look at the one in Gwagwalada and Ushafa, you can attest that these are quality jobs done by quality contractors. So, we are happy that we are keeping to standard and that’s what is important, not just giving out infrastructure but quality infrastructure that will make the people happy and turn around the economies of these areas.”

He commended the contractors for their commitment to delivering quality work and assured them of adequate funding to ensure timely project completion.

Some of you have held the view that because government gave you C of O, it means that the property belongs to you. No. government has set up agencies and universities. Government give them C of O just to protect the property. But that does not mean that because we gave you C of O as University of Abuja, the government does not own the University of Abuja. This is not correct. Even us in FCT, we own Abuja Investment Company, we give them land, we give them C of O, but that does not mean that the agency does not belong to us. It still belongs to us,” he explained.

Barr. Wike also acknowledged the contributions of the outgoing Chairman of the Board of Trustees, assuring him of continued recognition as a patron of the club.

The Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has expressed grave concern over the state of the largely undeveloped land allocated to the University of Abuja which measures over 10,000 hectares in size.

Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Friday, following an inspection of the access road to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Academy in Giri District, which is also within the university’s landed property, Barr. Wike stated that the continued non-development of the land by the university is unacceptable.

He said, “This tour has also opened our eyes as to the kind of land that the University of Abuja has acquired. It’s not acceptable. You can’t deny development…I don’t know where a university will go and take over 10000 hectares of land; for what purpose. We’ve been to universities; we have gone round to schools. Grabbing of land is not the whole thing. What is important is its development.”.

He further questioned the rationale behind acquiring such a vast expanse of land for “futuristic purposes”, stating that infrastructure development is more crucial than merely possessing land.

The Minister argued that acquiring land for future purposes is not a valid justification for such a large expanse of land. He stressed that a university's quality is determined by its infrastructure, not the size of its land holdings
.

He said, “Before you know it, they will begin to lease it out to people. It doesn’t make sense. What makes a university is not the large expanse of land. What makes a university is the infrastructure quality. It’s not about land. You can have 20,000 hectares of land, but if the university does not have any infrastructure, what does it help?”

Barr. Wike reiterated the FCT istration's policy that land should be developed, and if not, it will be reallocated to those who intend to develop it. He said, “We must stop this idea of just acquiring land for acquiring sake. That is not the essence of it. If they give you land, you develop it. If you don’t develop it, government will take it back and give it to those who want to develop. That is our position.”

The Minister also noted the non-development of land allocated to the Nigerian Police in the same area, hoping that the new road development will encourage those allocated land to begin development.

Speaking on other key infrastructure projects he inspected, including the ongoing construction of the 15-kilometer Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX) leading to Wassa, being executed by China Geo-engineering Corporation (CGC), the Minister expressed his satisfaction with the observed progress and the high standard of construction. He commended the contractor for their dedication and commitment to delivering quality infrastructure.
He also affirmed the FCT istration’s commitment to delivering on promises and ensuring the timely completion of the projects for the second anniversary of the President.

He said, " We are very happy with what we have seen and the quality of jobs that are being carried out. We believe, to the glory of God, that Mr. President will also be happy when he comes to inaugurate these projects.

“It is part of what we want to see that promises made are fulfilled or kept. It’s not good to just award a contract and then you abandon it and it becomes an abandoned project. This istration of Mr. President does not believe in that. Any contract given must be completed for people to use. So, we are very happy and we commend the contractors for the good job they are doing and we assure them that we will continue to partner with them for the development of Abuja”.

The Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has dismissed as baseless and diversionary, widespread rumours about his collapse and overseas medical treatment.

Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Thursday, following a routine inspection of ongoing infrastructure projects slated for commissioning in May to commemorate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second anniversary in office, Barrister Wike categorically denied the claims, saying that they were untrue.

He attributed the spread of these rumours to political machinations, specifically pointing to those he alleged sought to divert attention from serious allegations of planned attacks on national assets, including the Rivers State House of Assembly complex as revealed by a former Head of Service of Rivers State government.

He said, “What happened was that the former Head of Service of Rivers State government came out to let the public know what was going on about a plan to bomb the House of Assembly complex and attack national assets. To divert the attention of people from focusing on that, they had to bring up rumours that I had been flown overseas. There was never a time I collapsed, there was never a time anybody took me overseas”.

The Minister said he was focused on his job of providing good governance in the FCT and would not be distracted by such unfounded rumours.

Barr. Wike emphasized his continued public engagements, citing his presence at the President’s Iftar engagement and his leading of Abuja residents during the Sallah homage to the President as evidence of his robust health. “You see me every day. The day Mr. President broke Iftar during his birthday, I was there. The next day, I led Abuja residents to pay Sallah homage. I see so many stories online, this is politics. Those things don’t bother us. We are not distracted. We are focused on our jobs.”

He thanked Nigerians for their concern but cautioned against wishing ill health on others, reiterating that only God determines the time of one’s ing. “I thank Nigerians for showing concern, but people should not wish their fellow human beings such a thing to happen. We know that we will die one day, nobody will remain in this world forever, but it’s only God who determines the day you will die. No human being can say you will die today or tomorrow. So, don’t bother yourself, I’m very agile and I can assure you that I will write the condolence letters for those peddling these rumours".

Speaking on the infrastructure projects he inspected, Barr. Wike expressed satisfaction with the progress of work at the International Conference Centre (ICC) renovation, the Arterial road N16 in Gishiri and its interchange connecting Maitama District to Katampe, and the Judges Quarters and its access roads in Katampe District.

He said, “We were at the International Conference Centre where much work has been done. They are keeping to the time that they have given and they are also doing a good quality job. We’ve gone to Gishiri and the roads leading to the Justices Quarters. I’m very much impressed with the good jobs and the contractors handling these projects. You can attest to the fact that this is a quality job being carried out”.

He commended the contractors, including Julius Berger and CGC, for their commitment to delivering the projects on schedule and assured that funding, with the of President Tinubu, was not a challenge.

He encouraged taxpayers to fulfill their obligations, promising that they will witness the tangible results of their contributions. "All we will say is that those who are supposed to pay their taxes should pay their taxes, and ask us what we are doing with taxpayers’ money. They can see what we are doing with taxpayers’ money.”
