MultiChoice is investigating unbundling its popular SuperSport line-up from its other DStv channels as part of a broad channel composition review to address changing consumer preferences.

The broadcaster told MyBroadband it has accelerated its efforts into exploring potential changes to the composition of its DStv bouquets.

“This includes considering whether certain bundled elements, such as SuperSport and General Entertainment, could be offered differently in future,” the company said.

MultiChoice said the initiative was still in its early stages and that it was still assessing the offering’s commercial impact and customer value.

“It is also too early to comment on the specifics of any potential model — including whether changes would be optional or how pricing might be structured,” MultiChoice said.

“We remain committed to delivering flexibility and value to our customers and will share further updates as and when there is meaningful progress to report.”

DStv’s extensive sports offering is considered its biggest drawing card. The broadcaster provides live coverage of all major rugby, cricket, football, golf, tennis, and motorsport events.

Over the years, many people have expressed interest in a package with only its SuperSport channels at a more affordable price than its flagship subscription.

MultiChoice’s prospective new owner, Groupe Canal+, offers a dedicated sports bouquet separate from its main subscription.

The French broadcaster’s Canal+ Sport package boasts nine sports channels and an Apple TV+ subscription for €34.99 (R720) per month.

If Canal+ plans to use a similar strategy for DStv if its acquisition pans out, a separate SuperSport offering may become a reality.

“Canal+ won’t strip out sport from the existing package setup since it forms an integral part of the traditional pay-TV bundle,” Ferreira said.

Canal+ and MultiChoice still need to get final approval for the transaction from the Competition Tribunal and the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (Icasa).

The Competition Commission has already greenlit the transaction, recommending that the Tribunal conditionally approve the transaction.

If all goes according to plan, the two broadcasters expect the transaction to be completed by October 2025.

Mr Price has seen a rapid expansion in its store network since the start of the network, with the company benefiting from three major acquisitions over the period.

Mr Price sured 3,000 stores during the year ended 29 March 2025, opening 184 stores across its 15 trading chains, expanding its total store footprint to 3,030 stores.

The new stores highlight the rapid expansion of Mr Price stores since mid-2021, which were fuelled by strategic acquisitions and further investment in existing brands.

The group’s total number of stores has more than doubled from its 1,400 stores seen in 2021.

This comes after the group purchased Yuppiechef, Power Fashion and Studio 88 in the period. The group also expanded into standalone Mr Price Kids and Mr Price Baby stores.

The group said that its weighted average trading space increased 4.3% over the 2025 financial year, with new store returns continuing to be closely managed.

These new stores far exceed the group’s Return on Operating Assets (ROOA) thresholds, which exceed its weighted average cost of capital (WACC).

The group’s total revenue for the period increased by 7.9% to R40.9 billion, gaining half a percentage point of market share.

The group’s gross margin expanded to 40.5%, while its operating profit reached a record level of R5.8 billion.

That said, the financial services segment’s revenue increased by 5.7% to R918 million over the period.

The group said that the global economy has been characterised by uncertainty in 2025.

Shifts in trade partnerships and the potential of US-enforced tariffs have threatened growth prospects across markets.

The South African economy was not spared from this impact, and its forecast GDP growth has been revised downwards from the previous positive outlook at the end of 2024.

South Africa’s GDP growth over the previous decade was 0.7% and has not been conducive to fostering a healthy business environment.

Consumer relief has been ed by lower inflation, declining petrol prices and interest rate cuts of 100bps, boosting disposable income.

Real wage growth has also experienced some level of recovery. That said, the sustainability of an improving consumer environment in South Africa is challenging due to the uncertainty.

The group is still confident that its business model and brand power will enable it to outperform the market through varying economic cycles.

“We have a strong but disciplined growth mindset. Our team has evaluated many opportunities and declined most,” said Blair.

“Our three acquisitions in recent years have delivered a combined operating profit of R1.2 billion in FY2025 and continue to be earnings accretive.”

“Our focused research is ongoing to identify the next growth vehicle that will the achievement of our long-term vision.”

A sweet gesture by South Africa's President, Cyril Ramaphosa, towards a young girl caught everyone’s attention online and left many deeply touched.

The moment, posted on TikTok by @moziarora, moved internet s, with many singing his praise, while others pointed out issues our country was facing.

At a busy local mall, the President greeted a crowd wanting photos with him. He said he'd only take pics with the elderly and kids. During this, a little girl came up. While chatting with her, he noticed that her shoelaces were undone. Without hesitation, he went down, placed his bag gently on the floor, and tied her laces.

The crowd around him let out a loud “Awww,” clearly touched by the moment, with many pulling out phones to capture it. He smiled, waved to the people, and casually walked as if nothing had happened.

Social media s couldn’t get enough of the President’s soft-hearted side. Many said it showed how grounded and caring he was, especially with children. Some called the shoelace moment fatherly and touching, adding that they wished for more videos like that. Others were more critical, saying the gesture was sweet but didn’t excuse the country's ongoing problems.

MTN South Africa plans to begin delivering 5G fixed-wireless Sim cards to its customers using grocery-style delivery bikes.

Dubbed Shesha@5G, the pilot phase of the project will initially serve “selected areas” in Johannesburg, and MTN has promised delivery within two hours of order.

“This is another ambition to bring seamless 5G home connectivity to customers,” said Tania Ladopoulou, GM for online and telesales at MTN South Africa. “No more waiting 24-48 hours for delivery and no more standing in queues.”

MTN said customers can place an orders through its digital platforms. A scooter will then deliver their Shesh@5G Sim card or home connectivity package to their location. A self-Rica process is available on the MTN app.

“Once activated, customers are online and connected within minutes,” said MTN.

MTN South Africa CEO Charles Molapisi last week told TechCentral that the roll-out of the Shesha@5G service will begin in 10 neighbourhoods – including Midrand, Edenvale and Fourways – using around 10 MTN-branded motorbikes.

Molapisi said customers can also use the service to order an MTN router should they need one and described the service as the “Uber of connectivity”.

“There is no reason a customer who wants to a buy 5G fixed-wireless router needs to drive to a store and wait 24 hours for delivery and activation,” he said.

Ofcourse but it ended up being a dyck measuring thread with Nigerians prophesying doom for SA and a bright future for Nigeria grin. So don't come here acting like threads like that aren't the most popular threads here apart from the usual tribal ones.

Anytime Nigeria has some positive news or goes up the rankings in something ....the thread will be dominated with comments like ;
" we will show all these mushroom African countries we are the giant.of Africa " grin
" Naija no be their mate na, we are the most successful African country" grin
Etc.
It always ends up not being a celebration of what youve achieved but a chance to belittle and insult other African countries . Amnesia grin grin

Truly speaking that 2nd position belongs to someone else - Egypt or Morocco, even UK or (I'm surprised they didn't make the list but US and China did).

In a bizarre and unexpected sighting, an elephant seal was spotted wandering through the streets of Gordon’s Bay (Cape Town) on Tuesday morning, nearly a kilometre from the shoreline.

Stunned residents first noticed the massive marine mammal around 6am and quickly began filming the unusual encounter.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FZxpmaMYNh8?si=RteBOjtcXA5jUcQ7

Videos and photos online showed the visibly fatigued seal moving slowly along tarred roads, even propping its upper body on a parked vehicle before continuing to galumph forward.

By 8am, officials from the Cape of Good Hope SPCA had arrived at Sir Lowry’s Road, where the animal had settled in a residential area.

Efforts were immediately launched to ensure the seal's safety and eventual relocation.

SPCA spokesperson Belinda Abraham confirmed that inspectors were working to secure the area and develop a safe, low-stress plan to return the elephant seal to its natural habitat.

“This is a rather unexpected visitor,” Abraham said.

“We’re actively working on a safe and stress-free plan to relocate this magnificent marine mammal. Please avoid the area to help us give the seal the space and calm it needs while we carry out the rescue. This is a developing situation, and we’ll keep the public updated.”

One resident, who asked not to be named, said the seal likely made its way inland during the early hours.

“The seal had been busy since early morning. He was around the beach area and then moved closer inland. We often see seals here, but not like this, it’s not an everyday occurrence. This was unusual. The seal was huge!” she said.

“There were a lot of Gordon’s Bay residents at the scene because it was something phenomenal, especially at that time of the morning.”

Despite the growing crowd of onlookers, the animal appeared unbothered, calmly navigating the streets as residents looked on in amazement.

This isn’t the first time a seal has ventured into Cape Town’s suburbs. In December 2022, a female seal was seen crossing the busy Jakes Gerwel Drive near Vangate Mall in Athlone.

That animal was later safely returned to its marine environment by Chief Inspector Jaco Pieterse of the Cape of Good Hope SPCA.

Despite tensions, South Africa President Cyril Ramaphosa paid an official visit to the White House to cement ties over trade, amid the fiasco generated over land ownership in the "Rainbow Country,".

The South African President, Rama thanked Trump for the meeting and hoped the relationship between both countries continue for the better.
Trump responded in kind but ambushed Rama by asking him to react to videos from South Africans persecuting and threatening white farmers.

The US President told aides to dim the light and play the video, also showing the South African President photographs of white farmers attacked in his country, urging him to respond to them. Trump stressed teh world was quiet because it was Blacks against Whites, "on the other way around, it will have been called apartheid, though terrible, but that's what it will have been called"

Trump turned it to a question-and-answer session, asking if whites felt safe in South Africa.

Team SA did very well.

The video had nothing to do with SA policy, which Ramaphosa and white coalition minister refuted.

It was Malema. OP's right up doesn't mention this. Ramaphosa can't speak for opposition parties and therefore he wasn't humiliated.

People are just wicked. The south africa court couldn't find him guilty of all the rape allegations. However, out of south African hatred; some government officials said don't want him again when he went to start crusade again having pulled multitude. They just by all means look for another offence to hang on him regarding how he entered, dragged him to court again, before they talk of banning him for 5yrs.

His judgement is mixed with hatred, but God will comfort him and make him stronger. This is a wicked world! You are not guilty until the court found you guilty, but court couldn't find him guilty; yet, his enemies rose against him again. South africa and hatred are like 5 and 6. Welcome back home. God who sees the heart will comfort you. He will lift you higher above your enemies. Jesus has already said, you shall be persecuted and hated by people of the world. Be strong! Holy Spirit will comfort you. We are praying for you. Bravo! Don't be ashamed.
